Images & Words #81- PRETTY UGLY

Hi Images & Word Friends,

Mia here and I'll be your hostess this week.  I'm choosing the theme "Pretty Ugly" this time
and with that I mean an image/subject that is so ugly it's pretty, the other
way round or maybe just plain ol' ugly (or just pretty)  lol... Here is mine, a picture I took of a big Maori wood carving sitting in the
gardens of a historic house called Couldrey House in Wenderholm Park,
 North of Auckland:

Wood and fierce blue eyes
so beautifully ugly
you claim the garden

I feel this carving is both ugly and beautiful at the same time lol. Here are some
facts on these types of carvings:

Pou whenua are carved posts placed strategically on the land to acknowledge and represent the relationship between Tāngata Whenua (the people of the land), their ancestors and their environment or tūrangawaewae (place of standing).

In short, they mark the ancestral and contemporary associations between the people (tāngata) and the land (whenua), and as such are very significant to both Māori and their contribution to New Zealand's cultural heritage and identity.

The Rules:

Each week we will post an original photo with words on it. The idea behind this group is to expand our minds through our photography.

Photos must be your own, but the words can be someone else's as long as credit is given after the words.

Your post can either be serious, or if you'd like comical, but never obscene .

Posts can either have one word on them, quotes, or full poems ... Your choice.

All posts are to be done on your own site in a blog form with a link back to it being left here.

New topics will be posted on Sundays.

Posts can be made through Saturday.

One post per person only please.

Have fun with this!

Cheers

Mia

  17. Truly a Maori design, beautifully executed, yet a bit intimidating, which I expect it was meant to be. LOL You show it very well.

  21. I have had a huge problem on my site. Not sure why but my entry melted into previous entry, as you can see. Tried to delete could not, buttons seems stuck. Reposted, but because I did copy and paste, did the same thing. I can see I have had some visits, cannot see remarks and Mimi and Liz says it is all "melted" from their side. I cannot delete any of the posts. I have done a complete new repost, and that seems fine.
