Image & Words --- Door - Doors (Week 31)

Welcome back to another week of Images and Words. This week our topic is Door or Doors which hopefully leaves everyone with plenty of options. My shot is from back on 10-25-09 and from my favorite asylum the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum which dates back to before the Civil War.  Back when it was politically correct to say lunatic. The building is incredible even though it is filled with sorrow, and one of my favorite places to visit and photo.

The Rules
Each week we will post an original photo with words on it.
The idea behind this group is to expand our minds through our photography.
Photos must be your own, but the words can be someone else's as long as credit is given after the words.
Your post can either be serious, or if you'd like comical, but never obscene .
Posts can either have one word on them, quotes, or full poems ... Your choice.
All posts are to be done on your own site in a blog form with a link back to it being left here.
New topics will be posted on Sundays.
Posts can be made through Saturday.
One post per person only please.

  4. You're right. There must have been great sadness here. There still is. Excellent picture, both of the doors and of the space, itself.

  7. Beautiful photo! The history of mental health care has been a pet subject of mine. I hope that at least some of the people who were housed here were eventually able to go to much more humane "Moral Treatment" centers.

This will be a challenging theme for me. Let me finish my coffee and while looking at quotes and trying to come up with a photo to match. I'll be back!

  9. I can feel the eerieness there, I work with mental health clients, some of the severe chronic folks. Look at the thickness of those doors. I'll have to look around and see if I have anything that will work for this week. Love those shots from there.

  17. Wow, that picture reminds me of sunday school in the old building that was recently knocked down and they are now erecting a new catholic school in its place. wow, thoughts of overzelous hell and damnation teachers come to mind, LOL

  18. Great theme Joel. Love your photo. I took about 30 pictures of doors last summer, but I learned something from you. I didn't get enough subject matter around the doors to make it interesting. Thank you...
    Here is one I found.

  21. Thank you one and all for finding me on the group page. I keep forgetting to leave my link on your pages. I'm not A.D.D. I just got lots of stuff on the burners. Chicken n noodles n homemade dumplings, brownies made and I took a few photos of our gorgeous sunset tonight, a few of the ornaments on the tree, fed the dogs, goosed my husband while he's up on his knees and elbow deep inside the hood of his truck.

  22. So..sometimes when themes come up we realize something about ourselves. I apparently do not like doors. I cannot find a single photograph that will work. If I have any then they are on disk and it could take me days to go through them. lol Unfortunately, I will have to skip out on this one. *note to self, take photos of doors* Sorry Joel!

  23. Hi Joel I am running a bit behind but found a door for the theme. Your image is an image that stirs emotions. I can smell the antiseptic solutions and hear the voices coming from those walls and altogether find it quite disturbing. However Mental Health is a Big Part of life now and as it also was, in those days of these institutions. I can only hope that we have progressed with humanness along the way and will continue to do so..
