Images and Words Week 67: Courage, Motivation, Inspiration

Greetings from Amy and Welcome to week 67 of Images and Words.  Our scheduled hostess this week is presently without internet, my heart goes out to Mia because I would go CRAZY without internet, so I'm hostessing because I already have a theme ready to go and then Vic will guest host for me in two weeks.  Did you follow all of that? LOL!  Anyway...

I have chosen the theme of "Courage", which might be a little too specific for a lot of people so I've decided to add "Motivation and Inspiration" because everyone seemed to enjoy that theme. Plus you can never make too many Motivational/Inspirational posters, can you?  Nah, I've made several cuz it's a lot of fun.

Here is my entry:

A few weeks ago we had a lightning caused wild fire near-ish my house, our neighborhood filled with smoke but we weren't in any danger.  My son and I decided to go check out the fire, and when we arrived it was just a few plumes of curious smoke but soon the wind kicked up and it became quite dangerous--especially when the wind shifted toward these horses!  The owners of the horses tried to evacuate them, but the horses were very scared and ran around wildly before finally allowing their people to lead them to safety. I'm happy to say that all of the horses were rescued, and there were no injuries nor fatalities (except for a few chickens) in this fire.  Unfortunately, four homes were destroyed as well as several outbuildings including a garage with a Porsche.  I was the only photographer who documented the rescue of the horses so I sent my photos to the local newspaper who put this photo (sans quote) and another one of my photos on their website.  If you're interested in seeing my series you can check out my album here.

The Rules:

Each week we will post an original photo with words on it. The idea behind this group is to expand our minds through our photography.

Photos must be your own, but the words can be someone else's as long as credit is given after the words.

Your post can either be serious, or if you'd like comical, but never obscene .

Posts can either have one word on them, quotes, or full poems ... Your choice.

All posts are to be done on your own site in a blog form with a link back to it being left here.

New topics will be posted on Sundays.

Posts can be made through Saturday.

One post per person only please.

  5. Hi Amy. I'm in a similar position to Mia. I've been without a connection for nearly 4 weeks. I got it back for a few days, but it is going off again Monday 16th Aug for at least another two weeks, possibly more. That's why I've not been posting to I&W recently. Once my connection is resumed and stable, I'll be back to join in the fun. See you all soon.

  6. Thanks! If you look at the whole series and see how frightened they were just moments earlier, I think it speaks a lot to the horses' courage and trust for their humans. I've never made a collage before, but I might have to.

  9. Here they are a moment earlier, running around in circles completely panicked. IMO it's the better photo, but the other one matches the quote better.

  10. Hi Amy, so glad you were able to cover this week.
Poor Mia she really must be having a heck of a time in NZ with her connection.
I like your theme/s and your particular story here is very heartfelt and although alarming the out come is satisfying.
The captures on the other hand are truly fantastic. Well done.
Good old John Wayne his quote fits your image perfectly.
    I will return.

  13. Thanks! That photo is definitely going up on my wall, and a friend of mine wants a print for her birthday. I can't seem to find the right quote for it. I might have to make my own words, but I haven't yet come up with something that I like.

  14. When I look at the photo I'm captured by the strength and power of the animals. I'd play on that with the words. you'll come up with something perfect.

  22. The restaurant is called Bella Aquila, it's "Inventive Italian." Here is our website, I took all of the photos (but looking at them now I think I should reshoot some, and a couple of photos seem to be missing!)

  28. This is an open invitation to anyone who comes to the Boise area. I don't own or run the restaurant myself so I can't offer a free meal, but I'd love to meet you and show you some terrific photo opportunites just outside of our restaurant along the Boise River Greenbelt. It's beautiful!

  29. Dana, this is what I was trying to find for you and Ethan.

I'm sorry I couldn't find it but I had a lot of fun this evening, despite all the blood that I lost! (Mosquitoes and I gashed my toe). I hope you photographed those clouds at sunset!
